Former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R), has addressed conservative journalist Laura Loomer over comments she made regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ Indian heritage.
“If @KamalaHarris wins, the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center and the American people will only be able to convey their feedback through a customer satisfaction survey at the end of the call that nobody will understand,” Loomer said.
Vance appeared for an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” and was asked by host Kristen Welker how he felt about Loomer’s comments, given that his wife is Indian-American.
“I’ve been talking to allies of former President Trump who are frankly outraged, they’re alarmed that Donald Trump has been traveling with Laura Loomer. She is someone who says she supports White nationalism. She spreads conspiracy theories, including that the September 11 attacks were an inside job. She recently said that Kamala Harris, whose mother was Indian, if she wins in November, ‘the White House will smell like curry.’ Senator, you are married to hearing those comments, specifically?” Welker asked, per Mediaite.
“What Laura said about Kamala Harris is not what we should be focused on. We should be focused on the policy and the issues,” Vance told Welker.
The Ohio senator said he doesn’t “look at the internet for every single thing to get offended by.”
“I make a mean chicken curry, [but] I don’t think that it’s insulting for anybody to talk about their dietary preferences or what they want to do in the White House,” he added. “I think what Laura Loomer said is not what we should be focused on and we should be focused on the policies and issues. So, yeah, do I agree about what Laura Loomer said about Kamala Harris? No, I don’t.”
“I’m running for vice president because I think Kamala Harris has been a disaster and we have to undo her policies. That’s what we should be focused on and by the way, when I say we, I mean the American media,” Vance continued.
“Kamala Harris opened the border. She made food unaffordable. We should talk about her failure as a leader and not a social media personality who supports Donald Trump,” he concluded.
Trump has come under fire for his relationship with Loomer.
On Friday, NBC News asked the former president if he was familiar with Loomer’s conspiracy theories.
In response, Trump said, “I don’t know that much about it. No, I don’t.”
“I know she’s a big fan of the campaign, but I really don’t know,” Trump added.
On Truth Social, the former president doubled down on his comments, clarifying that Loomer does not work for his presidential campaign.
“She’s a private citizen and longtime supporter. I disagree with the statements she made but, like the many millions of people who support me, she is tired of watching the Radical Left Marxists and Fascists violently attack and smear me,” Trump wrote.
