Famed actor Robert De Niro has come out swinging against former President Donald Trump, claiming that the former president is not running with “right intentions.”
De Niro unleashed fury on Trump, calling him a “jerk” and an “idiot.”
While speaking with former Fox News host Chris Wallace on an episode of Max’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace,” the actor issued a scathing rebuke of Trump.
“I never wanted anything to do with him,” De Niro said.
“He’s a jerk. He’s an idiot. Who wants to meet a clown like that?” the actor asked.
When asked if he had a personal issue with Trump, De Niro replied, “You’ve got to help everybody. People are going to get overlooked — that happens. But at least you have somebody who’s sensitive to the condition of the country, the people.”
“And I’m not saying this like this because it’s Kamala Harris — but it is,” the 81-year-old actor added.
De Niro then expressed his support for Harris’ presidential bid, saying, “We need someone like her to do it.”
De Niro pointed out that, if elected, Harris will likely make mistakes, but argued that the vice president has the “right intentions.”
“She’ll make mistakes,” De Niro said.
“Of course, everybody does. But we need somebody with the right intentions. This guy has does not have the right intentions, and everybody knows that. It’s insanity. Period,” he added, according to The Hill.
As The Hill noted, De Niro has been an avid critic of the former president for years.
In May, while President Joe Biden was still a contender in the presidential primary race, De Niro appeared in an advertisement for the president, where he labeled Trump an “unhinged, power-hungry candidate.”
Wallace asked De Niro if is worried about Trump “not” giving up his power should the former president return to the White House.
In response, the famed actor said, “He’s never going to give it up.”
“And Anybody who deludes themselves in thinking that he is, shame on you,” he added.
De Niro’s comments come after the actor participated in a “Paisans for Kamala” virtual dinner that was hosted by former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D).
De Niro headlined the event, where he revealed that he visited the home of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), per Fox News.
“We just did a little pilgrimage … [to] Little Italy in Baltimore — to the home of Nancy D’Alessandro-Pelosi; where she grew up,” De Niro said.
In May, De Niro applauded a Manhattan court’s decision to find Trump guilty on 34 felony counts for allegedly falsifying business records.
“I’m always very weary. I don’t wanna get too excited about anything,” De Niro told Page Six at the time. “It’s as it should be. Justice has been served. That’s it.”
In October 2016, CBS News shared a video of De Niro saying he would “like to punch him in the face,” referring to Trump.
In the video, De Niro called Trump a “punk,” a “dog” and a “pig,” among other insults.
