On Sunday, former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr suggested that former President Donald Trump could add several Democrats to his cabinet who shared his frustration with the current Democratic party.
During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream, Kennedy was asked about the possibility of him campaigning alongside President Trump.
Bream began by reading a passage from the Wall Street Journal to Kennedy, which suggested that he and Trump should not make joint appearances.
“[The Wall Street Journal] say it’s a double-edged sword, essentially, that it may help President Trump to pick up some of your followers, if they’re willing to go over there, but they warn about what you would do in his administration.”
Bream then read the passage, which said, “If RFK Jr is anywhere near the healthcare or environmental agencies in a Trump Administration, look out. Mr. Trump’s best response is to thank RFK Jr. for his support, make no promises about the future, and by all means avoid joint campaign appearances.”
“You’ve already had one, will you have others?” she asked. “Will you campaign for President Trump?”
“Yeah, I’m gonna be campaigning actively,” Kennedy replied. “I think President Trump is going to make a series of announcements of other Democrats who are joining his campaign. And, you know, I want to make America healthy again, and so does President Trump.”
“The Wall Street Journal may be worried about shareholder value for pharmaceutical companies,” Kennedy continued. “I talked specifically with President Trump about that issue, and he said that he wanted to leave as his legacy healthy children.”
“He was unconcerned about the other implications,” Kennedy added.
Kennedy’s comments come as many are beginning to question the possibility of Trump running a unity ticket, adding a number of prominent Democrats and former Democrats to his cabinet.
Some of the names thrown out as possible cabinet members include Kennedy, former Democrat and Hawaii representative Tulsi Gabbard, and Elon Musk, who formerly voted Democrat but announced in May 2022 that he would no longer support them and would instead vote Republican in future elections.
“In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party. But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican,” Musk wrote at the time.
Trump has, numerous times, said that he would consider adding Musk as a cabinet member.
“He loves the country. I’d put him in the cabinet, absolutely, but I don’t know how he could do that with all the things he’s got going,” Trump said during an interview with Shawn Ryan on Sunday.
Gabbard, meanwhile, has been closely working with Trump as his debate advisorahead of his September debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, sparking speculation that she may be bound for a cabinet position as well.
