A new picture posted on social media Wednesday suggests that Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will not receive support from his family come November.
The photo, which has been widely shared on X, shows eight of Walz’s family members wearing shirts that say “Walz’s for Trump” as they stand in front of a Trump 2024 flag. It was originally shared by a family friend and later reshared by former Nebraska governor candidate and Trump ally Charles W. Herbster. His caption, ‘Tim Walz’s family back in Nebraska wants you to know something,” added to the impact of the photo.
Former President Donald Trump also reshared the photo on Truth Social. “Thank you very much, Jeff. It is a Great Honor to have your Endorsement. I look forward to meeting you soon!”
Herbster indicated that the individuals shown in the image are connected to the Vice Presidential nominee Walz through his paternal grandfather’s lineage.
This is just one incident that displays the dynamics between Walz and his family members. Recently, old social media posts made by Walz’s older brother, Jeff Walz, surfaced. In the Facebook post, Jeff said that he 100% opposed” his brother’s political viewpoints.
“We’ve just become a third-world banana republic,” Jeff said last March.
He noted that Walz was “not the type of character you want making decisions about your future.”
Referencing the old posts, Jeff informed NewsNation that he made the posts to let his friends know that he “didn’t share the same views” as his controversial brother.
He voiced his displeasure about the lack of communication regarding his brother’s nomination as vice-presidential candidate. He stated that the family was not given any advance notice and only learned of Tim’s selection when it was publicly announced.
To add to their estranged relationship, he also revealed that he had not spoken to the governor in eight years.
Walz has faced a lot of criticism since he was announced as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate. His military record was brought into question when it was revealed that he not only lied about his rank but also lied about being in combat.
He was also attacked for his response during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he enforced strict curfews, even going as far as allowing police officers to shoot residents with paintballs while outside on their property. Walz also set up a snitch hotline so neighbors could turn each other in for not following lockdown guidelines.
In a controversial move, Walz allowed assisted living facilities to be filled with infected patients, despite the high death rate. That COVID-19 policy was erased from the state’s public website.
